Claude Guest Pass: What It Is, How to Send or Redeem One, and Why Links on Twitter (X) Run Out

By TwitterAPI.io Team•13 min read
Diagram of how a Claude guest pass works in four steps: an eligible Pro, Max or Ultra subscriber runs /passes; a unique claude.ai referral link is shared; a recipient new to Claude paid plans enters payment details and must pick Pro; seven days of Pro access follow, then the plan converts to paid Pro. A red panel explains why links found on X are often already claimed.
The guest pass flow as described in Anthropic's help center, with the share of X referral-link posts that were paid offers or Telegram funnels (collected in 2026).
TL;DR
  • What it is: a referral link for seven days of free Claude Pro (Claude Code, Cowork and Claude Design included) for people new to Claude paid plans.
  • Who sends it: eligible Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers, via /passes in Claude Code or the Claude Code, Cowork or Claude Design settings. At launch it was Max only, 3 passes each.
  • How to redeem: open the link, sign up, enter a payment method, choose Pro (not Max or Ultra), and cancel before day seven if you do not want the $20-a-month plan.
  • Why links on X fail: passes are limited and first come, first served; one public post reaches thousands of readers but only a few can redeem it.
  • What we measured: 691 X posts with a claude.ai referral link from 412 accounts; the 5 busiest accounts posted 33.6% of them, and 29.2% were paid offers or Telegram funnels.
  • Never pay for a pass: Anthropic says passes have no cash value and are non-transferable. Ask a subscriber you know instead.

Claude guest passes started as a small Claude Code feature and turned into one of the most searched Claude terms of the year. Most people searching for one want two things: to understand what the pass actually gives them, and to find a link that still works. This page answers the first question from Anthropic's own help center and the official @claudeai announcement, and answers the second with data instead of a link list.

We do not publish or link anyone's guest pass. Instead we measured how guest pass links travel on Twitter (X): how many are posted, who posts them, how many are offers versus paid schemes, and why a link you find in a reply thread is usually gone by the time you click it. The last part of the page is for builders: how to watch this kind of conversation yourself with Claude Code and TwitterAPI.io, and what that costs.

Share of X referral-link posts from the 5 busiest accounts

33.6% of 691 posts carrying a claude.ai referral link came from five accounts, and 29.2% pushed a paid offer or Telegram channel (collected in 2026).

What is a Claude guest pass?

Anthropic's help article on guest passes (support.claude.com/en/articles/13456702) defines it in one line: share a free seven-day trial of Claude, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Design, with friends, family or colleagues. Each pass gives the recipient full access to Claude for seven days at no cost. The technical form is a unique referral link on claude.ai; the pass is what that link unlocks.

Here is everything the help center states, side by side, so you can see what is fixed and what is left open:

QuestionWhat Anthropic's help center says
What the recipient getsSeven days of free access to Claude's Pro plan, including Claude Code, Cowork and Claude Design
Who can sendEligible Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers
How many passesA limited number per eligible sender (no number stated)
Who can redeemPeople new to Claude paid subscriptions
Payment detailsRequired at signup; no charge unless the trial continues past day seven
After the trialConverts automatically to a paid Pro plan unless canceled
Too many redeemersFirst come, first served
ExpiryPasses may expire or be withdrawn
ResaleNo cash value, non-transferable

What the help center does not state. It gives no fixed number of passes per sender, no expiry date, and no list of countries. The only official number we found is in the launch post from @claudeai on December 16, 2025: "All Max users have 3 guest passes to share, and each can be redeemed for 1 week of free Pro access." Treat 3 as the launch allowance, not a promise for every account today.

Who can send a guest pass, and how (the /passes command)

Eligibility has widened since launch. The December 16, 2025 announcement from @claudeai said "Max users can now share guest passes with friends." A second Anthropic article that still exists (support.claude.com/en/articles/12875061, titled Claude Code guest passes) names eligible Max and Ultra subscribers, and its terms section still reads "eligible Max subscribers only". The current article that covers Claude Code, Cowork and Claude Design names eligible Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. Both pages carried an October 2026 revision when we read them. The word "eligible" matters: being on a paid plan does not guarantee you have passes, and if you have them, Anthropic says you will see a notification when you start a Claude Code session, a Cowork task or a Claude Design session.

Where to find your passes. In Claude Code, run /passes. Outside the terminal, open your Claude settings and look under Claude Code, the Cowork tab in Claude Desktop settings, or the Claude Design settings. All of them show the same referral link and a dashboard of how many passes remain and which were redeemed.

How to send one. Copy the unique referral link and send it by email, message or any channel you like. There is one link per sender, not one link per pass, which is the root of the problem on social media: the same link can be clicked by any number of people, but only as many of them as you have passes will get the trial.

What the sender can get. The current article says some guest passes come with overage credits for the sender once the person they referred converts to a paid plan. The amount is set per offer ("if specified"), the credits expire one year after they are issued, and they are voided if the sender drops to the Free tier. Third-party guides quote a fixed dollar figure for this reward; Anthropic's pages do not, so we do not either.

How to redeem a Claude guest pass (and not get charged by mistake)

Step 1: open the link from someone you know. A guest pass link comes from a subscriber; the help center describes a simple signup with guided installation after you open it.

Step 2: check you qualify. Recipients must be new to Claude paid subscriptions. The older Claude Code article is stricter in its terms: no previous Claude subscription history on any Claude product. If you have paid for Claude before, a guest pass is not for you.

Step 3: enter a payment method. It is required to activate the trial. You are not charged during the seven days.

Step 4: choose Pro. This is the mistake to avoid. Anthropic's Claude Code guest pass article warns that a recipient who subscribes to Max or Ultra instead of Pro does not get the pass activated and is charged immediately for the plan they picked.

Step 5: decide before day seven. If you do nothing, the trial converts to a paid Pro plan. Cancel before the end of the trial if you only wanted the free week.

For reference, these are the individual plans on Anthropic's pricing page (claude.com/pricing) when we checked it for this article. A guest pass converts into the Pro row.

PlanPrice shown by AnthropicGuest pass role
Free$0Cannot send passes
Pro$20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month with $200 billed up frontWhat the pass unlocks; can send if eligible
Max$100 monthlyCan send if eligible
Ultra$200 monthlyCan send if eligible

If you want to know what Claude Code itself costs after the trial, including the 5-hour and weekly limits and when an API key is cheaper per token, our Claude Code pricing breakdown covers it plan by plan.

Searchers often look for guest pass links on X; the query "claude code guest pass link twitter" is one of the phrasings we see. The mechanics explain why that search mostly ends in a dead link.

Passes are few, readers are many. A sender has a limited number of passes (3 per Max user at launch). A public post is seen by everyone who follows or searches for it: the median post with a referral link in our sample had 2,030 views. When a few passes meet a couple of thousand readers, the first handful of clicks take them, usually long before most readers see the post.

First come, first served is the rule, not a bug. Anthropic says that if you share your referral with more people than you have passes, redemption is first come, first served. The link itself keeps working as a referral link; it just has no pass behind it any more.

Some links are posted again and again. Of 591 distinct referral links in our sample, 14 were posted three or more times and one link appeared in 30 separate posts, mostly as identical replies under other people's threads. A link that is pasted under dozens of posts cannot have a pass for each of them.

Nobody announces that a link is dead. Only 0.3% of referral-link posts and 1.5% of guest pass mentions said a link was used up or expired. People who miss out simply move on, so the timeline never tells you which links are spent.

Passes can also expire or be withdrawn. Even an unused pass has a shelf life, and Anthropic can withdraw passes, so an old post is even less likely to work than a new one.

The data: how Claude guest passes are shared on X

We collected two samples in 2026 with the same read API we sell: 205 posts that mention a Claude guest pass by name since the December 2025 launch, and 691 posts that carry a claude.ai/referral/ link (the link format a guest pass uses). Official Anthropic accounts are excluded from both. The headline: link sharing on X is bursty and concentrated.

In the last 14 complete days before collection there were 340 posts carrying a Claude referral link, but 213 of them came from just five accounts, and most of those landed in a three-day burst. Everyone else together averaged 9.1 posts a day.

Stacked bar chart of X posts carrying a claude.ai referral link per day over the last 14 complete days before collection: 340 posts in total, 213 from the five busiest accounts and 127 from everyone else, with a peak of 118 posts in one day.

The two samples tell different stories. Posts that say "guest pass" are mostly ordinary people offering or discussing their passes. Posts that carry the referral link are dominated by a handful of high-volume accounts, many of which use the free week as a hook for something else.

Telegram funnels. 24.6% of referral-link posts also linked a Telegram channel. The pattern is a numbered series of Claude tips, each with a referral link and an invitation to a channel or to DMs. The referral link is the bait; the channel is the product.

Paid passes and scam warnings. Some posts sell bundles of referral links for cryptocurrency, and 5.9% of the referral-link posts were warnings from people who paid and received nothing usable. Anthropic's terms settle this: passes have no cash value and are non-transferable. If someone asks for money, your login or your card details in exchange for a pass, it is not a guest pass.

It is a global conversation. English dominates, but 98 of the 691 referral-link posts were in Japanese, the second-largest language, ahead of Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese and French.

How to get a working guest pass (without hunting on X)

Ask someone you know who pays for Claude. Anthropic designed the program for friends, family and colleagues, and a link sent to you privately is not raced by thousands of strangers. Ask them to run /passes and check that a pass is still available before they send it.

Check the official accounts, not reply threads. Anthropic announces program changes on @claudeai and in the help center. In the 100 most recent @claudeai posts we sampled, 0 mentioned guest passes, so do not expect a steady stream of official links; the launch post on December 16, 2025 is the main official reference.

Use the Free plan while you wait. Claude's Free plan costs nothing and does not need a pass. It does not include the Pro features, but it lets you judge the model before you commit.

If you already paid for Claude before, skip the pass. You are not eligible; subscribe to Pro directly or look at whether pay-as-you-go API usage suits your work better.

Do not trade anything for a pass. No payment, no account password, no card number sent to a stranger. The only legitimate place to enter payment details is Anthropic's own checkout after you open a referral link.

Building with Claude Code and TwitterAPI.io: watch this conversation yourself

Most people get a guest pass to try Claude Code. A good first project is the one behind this page: a small agent that reads X and summarizes what people say about a topic. Claude Code writes and runs the script; TwitterAPI.io supplies the X data with no X account needed.

Option 1: give Claude Code X tools through MCP. Our hosted MCP server adds search, timeline and profile tools to Claude Code with one command: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user twitterapi-io https://mcp.twitterapi.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer your_key_here". Then ask Claude Code to search X for a phrase and summarize what it finds. The step-by-step setup, including Claude Desktop, is in our guide to using Claude with the Twitter API.

Option 2: a plain REST script. The code at the end of this page is the core of our study: it pages through /twitter/tweet/advanced_search with has_next_page and next_cursor, counts posts per day and per account, and classifies them, without printing any handle or link. Ask Claude Code to extend it with a schedule, a Slack alert or a chart.

What the data costs. Tweet endpoints bill 15 credits per tweet returned, which is $0.15 per 1,000 tweets; a full 20-tweet page costs $0.003 and the minimum per request is 15 credits. This whole study made 68 requests and returned 1,173 tweets for 17,670 credits, about $0.18. The same 1,173 post reads at $0.005 each on the official X API pay-per-usage rate card (docs.x.com/x-api/getting-started/pricing) come to $5.87; per 1,000 tweets that is $5 versus $0.15, about 33x.

Getting a key. New accounts that pass the automatic bot check get up to $1 of free credits (at most 100,000 credits, no card, one per person or network, expiring after 31 days), enough to run the script on this page several times. Before the first payment the rate limit is 0.2 requests per second, and 20 per second once paid; the pricing page lists the plans.

bash
# add TwitterAPI.io's hosted MCP server to Claude Code (once, user scope)
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user twitterapi-io https://mcp.twitterapi.io/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer your_key_here"

# then, inside Claude Code:
# > search X for posts with a claude.ai referral link from the last 3 days and
# count them per day and per account (no handles in the output)

How we collected this

Question. How are Claude guest passes shared on X: how many posts, from how many accounts, with what kind of link, and what share are offers, requests, paid schemes or warnings?

Queries. Three Latest searches on /twitter/tweet/advanced_search for posts that mention a guest pass ("guest pass" claude, claude "guest passes", claude guest pass), deduplicated and kept only if the text contains both "guest pass" and "claude" and was posted on or after the December 16, 2025 launch (205 posts). One Latest search for url:claude.ai/referral over 35 pages (691 posts carrying the link). Two searches of @claudeai and @AnthropicAI for guest pass posts, and the 100 most recent @claudeai posts from /twitter/user/last_tweets. Official accounts are excluded from the topic samples.

Window and size. Collected in 2026. The mention sample spans 325 days, the referral-link sample 176 days. Search returns newest posts first, so we read daily rates only for the last 14 complete days. 68 requests, 1,173 tweets returned, about $0.18.

Classification. Post types come from keyword rules (for example "scam" or "beware" for warnings, a price, "selling" or a Telegram link for paid offers and funnels, "anyone have" or "looking for" for requests). They are approximate; a sarcastic post or a post in another language can land in the wrong bucket. The rules are in analyze.py in the study folder.

What the sample cannot show. Whether any given link still had a pass, how many passes were redeemed, how many senders exist, or anything about private messages. X search does not return every post, and deleted or protected posts are missing.

Privacy. Aggregates only. We stored no handles, post IDs, texts or referral codes of private individuals; referral links were counted in memory and never written to disk. Only the official @claudeai posts are quoted.

10 — Questions

Questions readers ask

What is a Claude guest pass?

A unique referral link from an eligible Claude subscriber that gives someone new to Claude's paid plans seven days of free Pro access, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Design. After seven days it converts to a paid Pro plan unless canceled.

How many guest passes do you get?

Anthropic's help center only says eligible subscribers get a limited number. The December 16, 2025 launch post from @claudeai said all Max users had 3 guest passes. Run /passes in Claude Code to see how many you have.

Can Claude Pro users send guest passes?

Anthropic's current guest pass article lists eligible Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers. Eligibility is per account, so not every Pro user has passes; if you do, Claude Code, Cowork or Claude Design shows a notification, and /passes lists them.

Do I need a credit card to redeem a Claude guest pass?

Yes. Anthropic says recipients must enter payment information to activate the trial. You are not charged during the seven days, but the trial converts to a paid Pro plan unless you cancel before it ends.

Why does the guest pass link I found on X not work?

Each sender has only a few passes and redemption is first come, first served, so a link posted publicly is usually used up by the first few people who click it. Passes can also expire or be withdrawn, and you are not eligible if you have had a Claude paid subscription before.

What happens if I pick Max instead of Pro when redeeming?

Anthropic warns that choosing Max or Ultra instead of Pro means the guest pass is not activated and you are charged immediately for the plan you selected. Choose Pro to get the free week.

Is it safe to buy a Claude guest pass?

No. Anthropic's terms say passes have no cash value and are non-transferable. In our X sample, scam warnings made up 5.9% of posts carrying a Claude referral link, mostly from people who paid for link bundles and got nothing usable.

Does the sender get anything for a guest pass?

Sometimes. Anthropic says some guest passes earn the sender overage credits once the recipient converts to a paid plan, when such credits are specified. They expire one year after issue and are voided if the sender downgrades to Free.
