Zapier Alternatives in 2026: Prices, Self-Hosting and Which Ones Still Connect to Twitter (X)

By TwitterAPI.io Team•12 min read
Status board of Zapier alternatives showing which platforms still have a native X (Twitter) integration and an HTTP fallback to TwitterAPI.io
Native X integration status from each vendor's own integration page, plus the HTTP fallback that works everywhere. Study data collected in 2026.

This page compares the platforms people move to when they leave Zapier. It is not our n8n pricing breakdown (that page goes plan by plan through one tool) and not the Make.com Twitter integration tutorial (that page builds one scenario step by step); here we line up seven tools side by side and check one thing most lists skip: whether each one can still read from or post to X (Twitter) today.

Every price and limit below was read from the vendor's own pricing or integration page during this review, and every X-related claim links back to the vendor's own documentation. To see what real users pick, we also pulled every post we could find on X that asks for or recommends a Zapier alternative and counted which tools they name, year by year.

If you are a developer who mainly needs X data inside an automation, skip to the section on the HTTP fallback: it works on all of these platforms and does not depend on any vendor keeping an X app alive.

Zapier alternatives compared: price, free tier, self-hosting and X support

The table summarizes what each vendor's own pages said during this review. Prices are the lowest paid self-serve plan; where a vendor did not render a price in the page we fetched, we say so instead of guessing.

PlatformLowest paid planFree tierSelf-hostNative X (Twitter) today

How to read the X column. A native integration that exists still runs on the official X API under the hood, so you need X developer credentials and you pay X's rates. The last section shows the route that avoids both.

What X users actually recommend when they leave Zapier

We searched X for posts that ask for or recommend a Zapier alternative (phrases such as "zapier alternative", "alternative to zapier", "instead of zapier" and "replace zapier"), removed the vendors' own accounts, and counted which tools each post names. The sample is 548 posts; one post can name several tools.

Activepieces468.4%
ChatGPT / OpenAI305.5%
Integrately305.5%
Claude / Claude Code244.4%
Pipedream112.0%
IFTTT71.3%
Power Automate40.7%

n8n leads, Make second. n8n appears in 15.9% of posts and Make in 9.5%. Activepieces (8.4%) is third, ahead of IFTTT, Pipedream and Power Automate combined.

AI assistants are now a named replacement. 5.5% of posts name ChatGPT or OpenAI and 4.4% name Claude or Claude Code in the same posts.

What people care about. 33.6% of the posts talk about price or a free plan, 28.5% about open source or self-hosting, and 16.6% about AI agents or MCP.

The shift: from Make to n8n, and from apps to AI agents

Splitting the same sample by the year each post was written shows how the conversation moved. Years before 2021 had fewer than ten matching posts and are left out of the chart.

YearPostsName n8nName MakeMention AI agents / MCP

20256830.9%7.4%27.9%
202610839.8%8.3%54.6%

Make peaked early. Make (then still often called Integromat) was the most-named alternative in 2022 at 19.6% of posts and sits at 8.3% in 2026.

n8n took over. n8n went from 0.0% of posts in 2021 to 39.8% in 2026, and posts that mention open source or self-hosting rose from 4.3% to 45.4%.

AI agents are the new reason to switch. In 2026, 54.6% of posts mention AI agents or MCP, against 3.4% in 2023. Every major platform now advertises an MCP server or agent builder: Zapier MCP is included on all Zapier plans, Pipedream lists MCP servers on every plan, Activepieces lists MCPs on its Free plan and IFTTT sells access to an IFTTT.ai MCP.

Free and open source Zapier alternatives: n8n vs Activepieces

n8n. The pricing page says "A standard, self-hosted version of n8n is available on GitHub" (the Community Edition). The repository's LICENSE.md puts the code under the Sustainable Use License, with files marked .ee. under a separate enterprise license. That license is source-available rather than OSI open source, so read it before you resell n8n as a hosted service. Cloud plans bill "based on monthly workflow executions, regardless of complexity": Starter is $20 a month billed annually for 2.5K executions, Pro $50 for 10K, and the self-hosted Business plan $800 for 40K (USD figures; the page shows euros in some regions).

Activepieces. The repository LICENSE places everything outside the packages/ee/ enterprise directories under the MIT Expat license, which is a true OSI open source license. The pricing page lists Free (1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows, up to 5 users), Plus at a flat $20 a month, Team (25 users included) at a flat $200, billed monthly and a custom Ultimate plan, with a Community Edition described as "the automation core on its own".

Which to pick. n8n has the larger community (it is the tool most named in our X sample) and a richer X node; Activepieces has the more permissive license and simple flat pricing. Both let you add a generic HTTP step, which matters for the X section below.

What self-hosting does not remove. Running the platform yourself removes the per-execution bill but not the cost of the APIs you call. An X workflow still needs X data from somewhere.

Make, IFTTT, Pipedream and Power Automate: what changed

Make. The pricing FAQ says credits are now Make's billing unit and that "most actions consume 1 credit"; the Free plan has 1,000 credits a month, and extra credits expire after a month on monthly plans. The paid-plan prices did not render in the page we fetched, so check make.com/en/pricing directly. On X, Make's help center states that from April 3, 2025 the X app left app search and that existing X scenarios stopped working on May 30, 2025.

IFTTT. The plans page lists Free (1,000 credits, unlimited Applets), Starter $2.09 a month, Pro $5.49 and Pro+ $13.99, where credits cover Applet runs, MCP usage and AI features. IFTTT's X service still lists 17 triggers, queries and actions, including "New tweet from search", "New mention of you" and "Post a tweet". Its polling triggers check every hour on Free, every 15 minutes on Starter and every 5 minutes on Pro and Pro+.

Pipedream. Pipedream now presents itself as "the integration layer for AI agents" (products Connect and Conduit) and its MCP site is branded "Pipedream, a Workday company". Free is for development only; production starts with Startup at $99 a month billed annually ($150 billed monthly) with 10,000 usage credits. The public Twitter app page returned a 404 during this review and its MCP directory answered "Couldn't find that app", although the component source folder is still in the GitHub registry.

Power Automate. Microsoft's X connector page says the shared Microsoft-maintained app "is no longer available", that the connector supports only "Bring your own application", and that "As of June 2023, it requires a paid Enterprise tier application." The connector still lists actions such as Search tweets, Get user timeline and Post a tweet, but you supply the X app and its bill.

Zapier itself in 2026: where it still wins

Zapier's pricing page lists Free (100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps, polling every 15 minutes), Pro from $19.99 a month billed annually for 750 tasks ($29.99 billed monthly), and Team from $69 a month billed annually for 2,000 tasks. Annual billing is 33% cheaper than monthly. Pro polls every 2 minutes, Team and Enterprise every minute.

AI and MCP. Zapier MCP is included on all plans and lets AI tools call Zapier actions; MCP calls draw from the same task pool as Zaps, and the rate card's illustrative example is 2 tasks per MCP tool call. That makes Zapier's MCP server a reasonable bridge for teams already invested in Zapier, but every tool call spends tasks.

Migrating off Zapier. Plan a rebuild rather than an import: list each Zap's trigger, filters and actions, then recreate the busiest ones first. Compare bills on the unit each vendor uses: Zapier sells a monthly task allowance, n8n cloud bills "based on monthly workflow executions, regardless of complexity", and Make says most module actions consume 1 credit. A long multi-step workflow therefore tends to cost less on an execution-billed plan than on a step-metered one; check each vendor's rate page against your busiest workflow before you commit.

Where it loses. No self-hosting, the smallest free tier in this comparison, and no X integration: Zapier's own Twitter page says the integration "has stopped working (effective August 31, 2023)" and suggests posting through apps such as Buffer or Hootsuite instead.

How active is each platform's own X account?

A side signal of where each community lives: we pulled the most recent posts from each vendor's official X account. Organization accounts only; counts are from the newest posts at collection time.

@make_hq400.7687525.0%
@activepieces1000.97640.0%
@pipedream1000.111,37247.0%

Reading it. @n8n_io posts its own content (4.0% reposts) and gets the highest median views per post (3,526). @zapier posts most often, but 62.5% of its feed is reposts. @pipedream's newest post in our sample is from 2025, consistent with its pivot away from end-user workflows, and @MicrosoftFlow returned an empty timeline page.

The fallback that works on every platform: one HTTP step to TwitterAPI.io

Every platform in this comparison has a generic HTTP request step (n8n HTTP Request node, Make HTTP module, Activepieces HTTP piece, Pipedream code steps, Power Automate HTTP action). Point it at TwitterAPI.io and you get X data without an X developer account and without depending on the vendor keeping an X app alive. The request below is the whole integration.

Cost of the data. Tweet endpoints such as /twitter/tweet/advanced_search, /twitter/user/last_tweets and /twitter/user/mentions cost 15 credits per tweet returned, which is $0.15 per 1,000 tweets. The official X API pay-per-usage rate card (docs.x.com/x-api/getting-started/pricing) charges $0.005 per post read, $5 per 1,000, so about 33x more, and caps pay-per-usage at 3 million post reads a month.

Cost of polling. A check that finds nothing costs the 15-credit minimum, $0.00015. Polling every 5 minutes for a month is $1.30; every 60 seconds is 43,200 checks, $6.48. Remember the platform side too: on n8n cloud every scheduled run is an execution, so a 5-minute schedule (about 8,640 runs in a 30-day month) needs more than Starter's 2.5K executions, while a 20-minute schedule (about 2,160 runs) fits.

Push instead of poll. For monitoring, /oapi/tweet_filter/add_rule sets a filter rule that posts matches to a webhook you host, such as an n8n Webhook node or a Make custom webhook, so the automation runs only when there is a new match.

Posting. Writes are available too: one /twitter/user_login_v2 login ($0.10, with a proxy you supply) returns login_cookies, and each /twitter/create_tweet_v2 post is then 60 credits, $0.0006, billed per HTTP 200 call. The call acts as that account, so X can rate-limit, lock or suspend it; keep a human pace, and expect the session to need re-login occasionally.

How we collected this, and next steps

Question. When people on X talk about replacing Zapier, which tools do they name, and has that changed over time?

Query and accounts. TwitterAPI.io /twitter/tweet/advanced_search (Latest and Top) for phrases including "zapier alternative", "alternative to zapier", "instead of zapier", "replace zapier" and "zapier competitor", reposts excluded; plus /twitter/user/last_tweets for @zapier, @n8n_io, @make_hq, @pipedream, @activepieces, @IFTTT and @MicrosoftFlow.

Sample and window. 553 unique matching posts (5 from vendor accounts removed, leaving 548), written between 2016 and 2026, and 500 organization timeline posts; collected in 2026 with 62 API requests, about $0.16 at $0.15 per 1,000 tweets.

What it cannot show. X search returns what it indexes for these phrases, not every opinion; tool names are matched by keyword, so a post naming Make in another sense can slip in; and posts are not weighted by reach. Treat shares as direction, not market share.

Privacy. Aggregates only. Posts by private individuals are counted, never quoted or named; only organization accounts are named. 94.7% of posts are in English.

Next steps. Get an API key from the dashboard, paste the HTTP request above into your platform's HTTP step, and follow the endpoint reference at docs.twitterapi.io. New accounts that pass the automatic bot check get up to $1 of free credits (at most 100,000 credits, no card, one per person or network, expiring after 31 days); purchased credits never expire.

10 — Questions

Questions readers ask

What is the best free Zapier alternative?

For a free plan you can use without a card, Make (1,000 credits a month), Activepieces (1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows) and IFTTT (1,000 credits a month, unlimited Applets) all beat Zapier Free's 100 tasks a month. If you can run a server, the self-hosted Community Editions of n8n and Activepieces remove the per-run bill entirely.

What is the best open source Zapier alternative?

Activepieces is the closest to classic open source: its core is under the MIT Expat license, with enterprise directories excluded. n8n is self-hostable and widely used, but its code is under the Sustainable Use License, which is source-available rather than OSI open source.

Does Zapier still work with Twitter (X)?

No. Zapier's own Twitter integration page says the integration has stopped working, effective August 31, 2023, and points users to apps such as Buffer or Hootsuite for posting. To use X data in Zapier you would need a custom HTTP call to an X data API.

Does Make still have an X (Twitter) app?

No. Make's help center says the X app left app search on April 3, 2025 and existing X scenarios stopped working on May 30, 2025. Make's HTTP module can call an X data API such as TwitterAPI.io instead.

Which Zapier alternatives can still post to or read from X?

n8n's X node can create or reply to tweets, delete, search, like, retweet and send DMs; Activepieces' Twitter piece can create tweets and replies; IFTTT lists 17 X triggers, queries and actions. All of them use your X account and the official X API behind the scenes. Any platform with an HTTP step can read X data through TwitterAPI.io without an X developer account.

Is n8n cheaper than Zapier?

Usually, for multi-step workflows. n8n cloud bills per workflow execution regardless of step count (Starter is $20 a month billed annually for 2.5K executions), while Zapier bills against a monthly task allowance (Pro starts at $19.99 a month billed annually for 750 tasks). Self-hosted n8n has no execution bill at all.

Is there a Zapier MCP server, and do alternatives have one?

Yes. Zapier MCP is included on all Zapier plans and MCP calls draw from your task pool. Pipedream lists MCP servers on every plan, Activepieces lists MCPs on its Free plan, IFTTT sells IFTTT.ai MCP access, and Make advertises a Make MCP server. For X data inside an AI assistant, TwitterAPI.io also runs a hosted MCP server.

How much does it cost to pull tweets into an automation without the official X API?

Through TwitterAPI.io it is $0.15 per 1,000 tweets returned, with a $0.00015 minimum for a check that finds nothing. A 5-minute poll that usually comes back empty costs about $1.30 a month. The official X API pay-per-usage rate card charges $0.005 per post read, $5 per 1,000.
